GameStop details new digital downloads store

GameStop is going the way of Amazon and opening up a digital distribution storefront on its site, where gamers will be able to purchase games and expansions for download.

PC downloads seem pretty straightforward: "For a PC, you receive an email with the code and a link to download the content to your PC."

As for XBLA offerings: "For a console, your code will be on the confirmation page you see after purchase, as well as instructions for installation."

That's the same way Amazon's XBLA effort worked, before it seemingly realised how pointless the whole exercise was and closed its XBLA store altogether. Unless GameStop plans to offer content for cheaper than the on-console store, we really can't see this being any more useful.

GameStop will also offer free trials of games, so you can try before you buy.
